Types of Employment

There are several different kinds of jobs. Some are full time, some are part-time and some are commission-based. Each type comes with its own system of regulations and guidelines that apply. But, there are some things to think about when hiring and firing employees.

Part-time employees

Part-time employees work for a particular company or organization , however they work less minutes per day than a full-time employee. But, part-time employees can still be able to receive benefits from their employers. The benefits offered vary from employer to employer.

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) defines the term "part-time worker" as employees who work fewer than 30 hours per week. Employers can decide whether to offer paid vacation time to their part time employees. Typically, employees have the right to a minimum of up to two weeks' pay time every year.

Certain companies might also provide classes to help part-time employees build their skills and advance in their career. This could be an excellent incentive for employees to stay in the company.

There's no law on the federal level which defines the term "full-time" worker is. Although you can't use the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) does not define the term, many employers offer various benefit plans for both part-time and full time employees.

Full-time employees usually earn more than parttime employees. In addition, full-time employees are allowed to receive benefits from their employer like health and dental insurance, pensions and paid vacation.

Full-time employees

Full-time employees typically work for more than 4 days a week. They may enjoy better benefits. However, they may miss time with family. Their work schedules can be too much. And they may not appreciate the potential for growth within their current jobs.

Part-time employees may have more flexible work schedules. They could be more productive as well as have more energy. They can be more efficient and fulfill seasonal demands. However, those who work part-time receive less benefits. This is why employers should distinguish between part-time and full time employees in the employee handbook.

If you're looking to hire employees on a temporary basis, you must determine the many hours the person will work per week. Some companies have a period of paid time off available for workers who work part-time. It may be beneficial to offer an additional benefit for health or pay for sick leave.

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) defines full-time employees as employees who are employed for 30 or more hours a week. Employers must offer medical insurance to their employees.

Commission-based employees

Employees who are commission-based receive compensation on the basis of the amount of work they perform. They usually perform sales or marketing roles in establishments like insurance or retail stores. But, they also be employed by consulting firms. In all cases, working on commissions is governed by national and local laws.

Typically, employees who complete contracted tasks are compensated a minimum wage. For each hour that they work it is their right to an average of $7.25 and overtime pay is also needed. Employers are required to deduct federal income taxes from any commissions he receives.

Employees working with a commission-only pay structure still have access to certain advantages, such as pay-for sick leaves. They are also able to take vacation time. If you're unclear about the legality of commission-based income, then you may be advised to speak to an employment lawyer.

Anyone who is exempt under the FLSA's minimum salary or overtime requirements can still earn commissions. The majority of these workers are considered "tipped" employes. They are typically classified by the FLSA as having earned more than $30.00 per year in tipping.

Whistleblowers

Whistleblowers employed by employers are those who expose misconduct in the workplace. They could reveal unethical and criminal conduct or report other violation of the law.

The laws protecting whistleblowers are different from state to the state. Some states only protect employers working in the public sector while others protect employees in both public and private sector.

While some statutes clearly protect employee whistleblowers, there are others that aren't so well-known. But, most state legislatures have passed whistleblower protection laws.

Some of these states include Connecticut, Idaho, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin, and Virginia. Additionally the federal government has several laws that safeguard whistleblowers.

One law, known as"the Whistleblower Protection Act (WPA), protects employees from discrimination when they report misconduct in the workplace. That law's enforcement is done by U.S. Department of Labor.

Another federal law, known as the Private Employment Discrimination Act (PIDA) cannot stop employers from firing an employee in the event of a protected disclosure. But it does permit employers to design and implement gag clauses within any settlement agreements.
